Delon Human 

Dr. Delon Human, M.B.Ch.B., M.Prax.Med, MFGP, DCH, MBA is a specialist family physician, published author and health care consultant specializing in global health strategy, harm reduction and health communication. He is the founder and President of Health Diplomats, a specialized health, nutrition and wellness consulting group operating worldwide. He has acted as adviser to WHO Director-Generals and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon. He is the immediate Past Secretary General of the World Medical Association (WMA), and also current Honorary Secretary-General of the Africa Medical Association (AfMA). He served as Secretary-General and Special Envoy to WHO / UN of the International Food and Beverage Alliance (IFBA), a group of leading food and non-alcoholic beverage companies with a global presence. He qualified as physician in South Africa and completed his postgraduate studies in family medicine and child health in South Africa and Oxford, England. He was a clinician for two decades, part of the pediatric diabetes & endocrinology research unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital and involved in the establishment of several medical centres, a hospital and emergency clinic in South Africa. His business studies (MBA) were completed at the Edinburgh Business School.

 

Davide Campagna

After the degree in Medicine at University of Catania in 2009, he specialized in Internal Medicine in 2016. After residency degree, he started working in the Emergency Dep. at the Policlinico Teaching Hospital in Catania, Italy. Since January 2022, he is a research fellowship of Internal Medicine at University of Catania with a research project on sustainability of alternative tobacco products. During Residency program, he continued his scientific research, collaborating with IMI-UBIOPRED consortium for the study of severe asthma. Furthermore, he ran the diabetes and asthmatic outpatient clinic. As a researcher, he conducted the first trial on electronic cigarettes in 2010, under the supervision of Professor Polosa. As expert in the field of tobacco harm reduction, tobacco harm reversal, diabetes, asthma, emergency medicine, he recently published the paper “Health impact of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: current and emerging evidence”. He is PI for the project Diasmoke at the Policlinico Teaching Hospital in Catania and he is involved in the research activity of the CoEHAR, the Center of Excellence for the acceleration of Harm Reduction of the University of Catania.

Prof. Campagna is the winner of the Uliveto Prize by Italian Society of Internal Medicine in 2011, AAAI Travelship Grant for presenting a poster at the annual meeting in 2016 in L.A. Moreover, Professor Campagna won three grants of the Italian Society of Internal Medicine to attend Efim International Internal Medicine Winter School at Riga in 2016, the Italian Ultrasound Summer School in 2014 and the Italian Emergency Medicine Summer School in 2014. He is also the winner of  “Progetto di Ricerca Finalizzata” by Italian Ministry of Health, with the project “Smoking cessation and reduction of cardiorespiratory risk factors in diabetic smokers: a comparison between two different nicotine delivering systems”. 

Magdalena Walicka 

She graduated from the Warsaw Medical University in 2000. In 2007, she completed the specialization training and obtained the title of specialist in Internal Medicine, in 2012 in Endocrinology and in 2018 in Diabetology. In 2009, she got her Ph.D. at the Medical Centre of Postgraduate Education in Warsaw, Poland. She completed a postgraduate internship in 2000-2001 at Orlowski Hospital in Warsaw. From 2001 to 2014, she worked at this hospital in the Department of Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Metabolic Bone Diseases as an assistant and then deputy head. From 2004 to 2014 she worked also at the Medical Centre of Postgraduate Education in Warsaw as an assistant and then as a lecturer. Since 2014 she has been employed at the Department of Internal Diseases, Endocrinology, and Diabetology of the National Medical Institute of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration in Warsaw as deputy head, and additionally since 2021 at the Department of Human Epigenetics of Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw as a specialist. In October 2021 she completed a research internship at the University of Catania at the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine during which she conducted a study on the impact of smoking and smoking cessation on metabolic parameters in patients with diabetes. The results of the study were published in the World Journal of Diabetes. Dr. Walicka received three team awards of the Director of the Medical Centre of Postgraduate Education in Warsaw for teaching achievements. She is the author of 33 original research and case studies, 30 reviews, and 18 chapters in textbooks. She also has delivered many lectures at conferences in her country.Her main research interest is diabetes, osteoporosis, vitamin D, and adverse events related to hospitalizations.

Andre Pascal Kengne 

He is a medical doctor and internist from the School of Medicine of Yaounde in Cameroon and holds a PhD in medicine from the Sydney University, Australia. He is the current Director of South African Medical Research Council’s Non-Communicable Diseases Research Unit and he holds conjoint appointments as Professor at the Department of the Department of Medicine of the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He has a solid background on longitudinal studies methodologies, both interventional and observational, as well as related statistical methods. He has practiced Medicine in Africa, lectured, and mentored on issues relating to chronic diseases and conducted research on those conditions at very high level both in Africa and at the global level. He is co-author of over 450 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and monographs on chronic diseases in Africa and at the global level. He has received several distinctions during his career as a researcher and is member of many international experts and working groups. His areas of research include chronic diseases epidemiology and prevention in developing countries, decision making in diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Noel Somasundaram 

He Is a Consultant Endocrinologist, for the Diabetes and Hormone Centre, Colombo, Sri Lanka. He was the President of South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies from 2019 to 2021 and Project Leader for Sri Lanka Diabetes and Cardiovascular Initiative, a national project for prevention and control of non-communicable diseases. Dr. Noel Somasundaram has more than 130 publications in the field of diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism. He is the editor of Clinical Diabetology, a handbook for diabetes management and has chapters in fifteen textbooks including Oxford Desktop Reference in Endocrinology and International Textbook for Diabetes. He has been Principal investigator in many international studies, including the EMPAREG study. He was Consultant Endocrinologist at National Hospital of Sri Lanka. He has served as the chairman of the Specialty board in Endocrinology, Post Graduate Institute of Medicine and for guideline committees in Diabetes, Obesity, Thyroid, Sodium disorders, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and Cushing syndrome. He graduated (with 13 medals and awards) from the University of Jaffna and subsequently trained in Endocrine Unit of St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London prior to being board certified as Endocrinologist by the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo. His pioneering work includes introduction of comprehensive care for patients with diabetes, obesity, pituitary tumor and craniopharyngioma, introduction of hormone testing and catheter studies for complex endocrine disorders to Sri Lanka.

Roberta Sammut 

She Is Senior Lecturer with the Department of Nursing and former Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Malta, Malta. She lectures on the interdisciplinary Masters in Diabetes Care as well as the Masters in Nursing and supervises students at postdoctoral level, including Masters and Doctoral students. Dr. Sammut is Associate Editor of the International Journal of Nursing Studies, a scholar of the European Association of Nursing Sciences and a Fellow of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery of the Royal College of Nursing in Ireland.  Dr. Sammut is also a member of the management board of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, which is a Church organization providing residential services to persons living with disability.  Amongst her research interests, she has a particular interest in smoking cessation in persons living with type 2 diabetes, and is currently supervising a doctoral student carrying out a study to assess a complex intervention to assist persons with T2DM to stop smoking

Tabinda Dugal 

Diabetes Endocrine, United Kingdom, Visiting Professor of Medicine FJ Medical University Lahore Pakistan. Experienced Consultant Endocrinologist and Physician with over 20 years of experience in diabetes and endocrine care. Strong track record of leadership and collaboration with colleagues, as well as teaching and mentoring junior medical professionals. She conducted research on the role of emerging technologies, such as CGM, in improving diabetes control and reducing the risk of complications. She co-authored several publications related to diabetes and endocrine care, including presentations at national and international conferences. Anoop Misra 

Dr. Misra is Chairman at the Fortis-CDOC Center of Excellence for Diabetes, Metabolic Diseases, and Endocrinology inNew Delhi and Director at the National Diabetes, Obesity and Cholesterol Foundation, and Diabetes Foundation (India). After doing undergraduate and post graduation from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, he has worked in Royal Free Hospital in London, UK and at Department of Medicine and Endocrinology at Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Texas, USA as WHO Fellow and later, as a faculty. In India, Dr Misra has been participant of top Advisory Committees relating to Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases, and Nutrition in India. He has been advisor to Ministry of Health, Indian Council of Medical Research and Department of Biotechnology on several issues related to diabetes and other non-communicable diseases. Prof. Misra has more than 40 years of experience in teaching, service, research, and community health intervention programs and has published more than 350 scientific papers/chapters in the National and International journals and books. In 2021, according to the analysis of Stanford University, he is among top 2% of scientists in diabetes research from India to be ranked globally. He is Editor-in-Chief of “Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research and Reviews” (Elsevier), and Clinical Keys (Elsevier), and Associate Editor of “Journal of Diabetes” (USA), and European Journal of Clinical Nutrition (UK). He is member,member Editorial Advisory Board of British Medical Journal, member, BMJ’s Regional Advisory Board for South Asia and member, Lancet Obesity Commission, 2023. Dr Misra has received numerous awards and 31 named orations. He has been awarded highest award for medicine in India Dr BC Roy award (2006) and India’s prestigious National Honor, Padma Shree (2007). He has received “Outstanding Investigator Award” from World India Diabetes Foundation in 2013. His current interest include research on nutrition, metabolism, and diabetes in relation to liver fat, pancreatic fat, lean skeletal muscle mass and vitamin D. He is author of bestselling books “Diabetes with Delight” and “Diabetes ke Saath Khushaal Jeevan” (Bloomsbury).

S. Abbas Raza

Dr. S. Abbas Raza is working as consultant Diabetologist /Endocrinologist at Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital & Research Center and National Hospital in Lahore, Pakistan. Dr. Raza graduated from the Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore Pakistan. He received his Internal Medicine residency training from Atlantic City Medical Center, New Jersey, USA and also served as Chief medical resident at the same institution. His fellowship training for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism was at University of Wisconsin, Madison, U.S.A. He is Diplomat American Board of Internal Medicine and Diplomat American Board of Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism. Government of Pakistan and the President has awarded Dr. Raza with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for his services in field of Medicine in 2022-23. It is one the highest civil award bestowed to recognize individual’s meritorious contribution to the national interests of Pakistan with significant public endeavors. Dr. Raza has been honored with Fellowship by American College of Endocrinology and Sri Lanka College of Endocrinologists.  Dr. Raza has many researches and scientific articles to his credit which are published in peer reviewed journals and have authored chapters in Endocrine books. He is actively involved in the publication of guidelines and consensus statement for Southeast Asia region related to Diabetes and Endocrinology. Dr. Raza has also served as Chief Investigator for several national and International clinical trials. Dr. Abbas Raza currently holds the office of President of the International Society of Endocrinology (ISE). He has also served as President of organizations including South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies (SAFES) / Pakistan Endocrine Society (PES) and American Association of Clinical Endocrinologist (AACE) – Pakistan Chapter. SAFES includes Endocrine Societies of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Pakistan Endocrine Society honored Dr. Raza with “Lifetime Achievement award”, where he serves as Executive Member since 2004. Dr. Raza is currently working as CEO of MED Consultant, an organization working for capacity building of General physician and outreach program for patient suffering from Endocrine disorders.  Dr. Raza also holds responsibility of Director of organizations like “Friend Of Mayo” (FOM) and Dilawar Hussain Foundation (DHF). FOM has taken responsibility of upgrading Mayo Hospital, which is a century old hospital, with inpatient – bed capacity of more than 2400 patients. This hospital caters for poor / no affording patients. While Dilawar Hussain Foundation, is a social welfare & charity organization formed in 2011, serving in the field of health, education, and community awareness. DHF runs Charity Diabetes Clinics and caters to thousands of patient suffering with Diabetes and unable to afford treatment.
